The unicorn is attributed to the ancient Greek historian and physician Ctesias, who described it as a beast about the size of a horse, with a pure white body, a dark red head, dark blue eyes and a horn on top of its head, about a foot and a half long. Pliny, a Roman scientist, described it in some detail as "a very violent and ferocious beast, with the body of a horse, the head of a deer, the feet of an elephant, and the tail of a boar, with a low, powerful roar, and black horns on the forehead, about two feet long.
